Angus, with its population of approximately 8,700 is located in Essa township. Essa is west and south of the city of Barrie in the County of Simcoe. It is bounded by County Road 90 to its north, County Road 27 to its east and Highway 89 to its south. It is approximately 100 kilometers North of Toronto.
Surrounding Communities
The main communities of Essa township are Angus, Thornton and Baxter. Other small hamlets are Cedargrove, Colwell, Egbert, Elmgrove, Hoe Doe Valley, Ivy, Utopia and West Essa. Much of Canadian Forces Base Borden is located adjacent to the northwest corner of the township bordering Angus. CFB Borden is one of the major employers in the township alongside Honda, which is mostly otherwise a bedroom community whose residents largely commute to Toronto for work. |
Local Government
The Township of Essa is governed by a five member Council. Council is comprised of a Mayor, Deputy Mayor and three Councillors.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected at large while the three Councillors are elected in their respective Ward.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor also serve as members of the Council for the County of Simcoe.
The current Mayor of Essa is Terry Dowdall.
The Deputy Mayor is Sandie Macdonald

Ward 3 Councillor is Ron Henderson
